theBeginning

sloArch.com started by Tim Alatorre in the May of 2009 as a general Architecture blog with a focus on the Revit software program.

After being laid off from his job a month and a half prior Tim was feeling disconnected from the Architecture profession. In an effort to reconnect and stay mentally engaged with the profession Tim started writing articles about Revit and the Architecture in his community. After gaining steady employment a few months later it became increasingly difficult to find time to write for the site and postings became more infrequent.

In December of 2009 Tim awoke at 4am with the idea that sloArch.com should transition from being a general architecture site to a community portal for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Architecture students, faculty, and alumni. He developed the idea of producing a weekly podcast where he could unite the larger Cal Poly community that was, like him, removed from the very intimate Cal Poly Studio setting.

To help him with this goal Tim turned to his long time friend and former classmate Haley Gipe. Together they further developed the concept of the show and released the first episode on Christmas, December 25th, 2009.

In March, Peter Kaupert joined the team to assist with news gathering, reporting, and the very complicated process of forming a non-profit corporation.

On July 23rd, 2010, sloArch officially welcomed Justin Ribble to the team as a Contributing Editor.
